At Freiwerk, plastering and painting are the final layers of a renovation: walls and ceilings plastered smooth or made ready for wallpaper, and all painting of walls, ceilings, doors, frames and mouldings. Because we do the whole renovation, the plastering only happens once all pipes and boxes are in place, and the painting comes last.

Plastering and painting are the layers you see most. A wavy wall or a streaky ceiling shows in every light. That is why we only do them once all other work is finished, and we do them properly.

why the order matters

Plastering done too early has to be opened again for a pipe or a box. Painting done too early gets damaged by other work. That is why plastering and painting come at the end of our schedule, once everything else is finished. That keeps it flawless.

In an old house walls are rarely straight, and there is often still original plasterwork with cornices or a ceiling rose. We restore that where possible, and make sure new work connects calmly.

Do you also do just painting?

We do plastering and painting as part of our renovations. That way we are sure the substrate is right and the work happens last.

What is the difference between paint-ready and wallpaper-ready?

Paint-ready plaster is smooth enough to paint straight away. Wallpaper-ready is slightly less smooth, because wallpaper hides small irregularities. We advise what suits your finish.

Do you also restore ornaments and cornices?

Yes, where possible we restore original plasterwork such as cornices and ceiling roses, and make new work connect to it.
