Freiwerk started as a carpentry business. Clients increasingly asked for more, and so it became the whole renovation. But the carpentry has remained what it was: the foundation and the work we are known for.

In an old house no wall is straight and no corner is square. Bespoke work that has to fit well there is measured on site and finished with patience. We would rather restore panel doors, mouldings and a staircase with character than replace them.

In an extension or a sleek renovated room it is about lines and details: a cabinet wall that disappears into the wall, a handleless door, a skirting board that is not there. That calls for precise preparation and a carpenter who knows where the difference lies.

Because we do the whole renovation, we know well in advance where a cabinet will go and where pipes and sockets need to be. That way the bespoke work connects with the services and the finishing, without adjusting and measuring afterwards.

Do you also do separate carpentry jobs?
We prefer to do our carpentry as part of a renovation, because it fits best that way. If you have a larger bespoke project, such as a cabinet wall or staircase, feel free to ask us.
Can you restore old details?
Yes. We restore or supplement panel doors, mouldings, ornaments and old staircases, so new and old connect.
Do you make built-in cabinets under a sloping roof?
Yes, that is exactly where bespoke work belongs. We measure on site and make the cabinet to fit the space.
What wood do you use?
That depends on the design and the location. For visible work solid wood such as oak is often chosen, for painted work board material or pine. We advise you on this in the design.
